Periodontist

Periodontists work with your dentist and are skilled at restoring the health of your gums. They have received an additional three years of education and training beyond dental school and are experts in the treatment of periodontal disease. It is estimated that about 50% of the US are affected by gum or periodontal disease. While in its earliest stages it’s effects may not be obvious, but when left untreated it can cause great damage and increase your chances of heart disease and diabetes.

There are many signs that point to gum disease. Gums may become red, swollen, tender, or they may bleed frequently. You may have bad breath that doesn’t go away, your teeth may be loose or your gums may have pulled away from your teeth. When found early, gum disease can often be treated with a minor procedure performed by your dentist or a periodontist. Your dentist or periodontist will create a treatment plan for a nonsurgical or surgical procedure and explain the steps involved.
